Spoilers ahead for Red Rising

I'm currently reading Red Rising, which I have heard is a popular selection for favorite book among male nerds. I can confirm that I love the writing, the hero's journey setup and the unlikeable yet persevering hero who pushes through despite everything. There's one point early on in the story where Darrow is avenging his wife by infiltrating the ranks of the Golds, the highborns of this fictional world. He gets faster, stronger, smarter. He trains hard, breaks down his body and mind, and builds them back again. And then - judgement day. He takes.. a test. This is like if John Wick trained for years only to walk into an SAT room as his final challenge. Not only, does Darrow have to take the SAT, there's a harrowing moment with suspense and excitement where he.. gets the results. Gets the results!! This book of war and revenge boils down to a college admission reel (not really, but I couldn't escape the absurdity of this moment)
